Hours: 40-60 hrs per week (anticipate 55 hrs per week)

Position Details:
The Electrical Engineer (Subject Matter Expert with a focus on Electrical Power Engineering) will work directly with a team to:
- Support the complete life cycle for various products manufactured to support the nation’s needs for plutonium and SNM fabricated products.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams from various organizations at the Laboratory and/or U.S. government agencies to address engineering challenges.
- Identify any process improvements and assist with development activities.
- Develop and implement resource loaded schedules to plan and implement small projects.
- Perform hazard analyses, develop the authorizing documents to perform safe secure work, such as detailed operating procedures and integrated work documents.
- Work in a glovebox or open hood operation and with energized equipment associated with special nuclear materials as needed, on occasion.
REQUIREMENTS
- Expert knowledge of professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, and procedures as demonstrated by experience researching, designing, testing, analyzing, verifying, and validating engineering solutions
- Proven analytical thinking skills, as demonstrated by experience designing and executing experiments, including the analysis and interpretation of data
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills as evidenced by publications, presentations, and/or report development
- Demonstrated expert knowledge of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Maintenance and Conduct of Operations requirements or other equivalent industry standards such as ASME, ASCE, NFPA 70, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and transfer knowledge to early career engineers
- Knowledge of continuous improvement concepts and tools
- Demonstrated experience with development of new methods, techniques or approaches to address critical technical problems
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in high-intensity environments with coworkers representing a variety of technical backgrounds
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expert design experience in electrical equipment associated with nuclear, accelerator, or industrial facility operations using NQA-1 principles
- Knowledge of quality implementation
- Knowledge of existing NNSA/DOE requirements related to nuclear and high hazard facility operations
- Experience working in manufacturing environment
- Experience with translating R&D projects into viable manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of project management and project controls
- Active DOE “Q” Clearance
EDUCATION:
Position requires a Master’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 10 years of nuclear related experience including a minimum of 5 years minimum DOE experience in Electrical Engineering; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred.
