Rate: is open and non-exempt
Hours: 40-60 hrs per week (anticipate 55 hrs per week)
Per diem: Available for those who qualify

Position Details: 

The Electrical Engineer (Subject Matter Expert with a focus on Electrical I&C Engineering) will work directly with a team to integrate with programmatic, operations, maintenance, document control, project management personnel to ensure nuclear facility requirements are met in a way that allows safe and compliant accomplishment of LANL mission. Develops activities within a nuclear facility engineering discipline. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applies knowledge of nuclear facility engineering principles and practices in the preparation of nuclear facility engineering deliverables. Utilizes nuclear engineering technology to accomplish work and improves work processes to meet customer needs.
REQUIREMENTS

  • Broad and/or unique knowledge of nuclear facility engineering systems, processes, and calculations; application of nuclear facility engineering methods; and application of technology aided nuclear facility engineering tools to nuclear facility engineering problems.
  • Knowledge of nuclear facility engineering in one or more of the following, nuclear criticality safety analysis, safety basis, system engineer, project engineer, or design engineer.
  • Knowledge of nuclear facility engineering work planning and control methods.
  • Knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies.
  • Knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards, and guides.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the nuclear facility engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of nuclear facility engineering principles and procedures, guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.
  • Knowledge of project and process nuclear facility engineering practices.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Allen Bradley PLC Programming using Studio 5000 and RS Logix 500.
  • Modicon PLC Programming Concept 2.6.
  • OSI Monarch HMI building and SCADA database administration.
  • GE iFIX 5.8, 6.0 and 2022 HMI building and SCADA database administration.
  • Proficy Historian database administration and the ability to create reports by access of Dream Reports
  • CAMDAC, Telvent, and SAGE RTUs.
  • GE JungleMUX WAN Communications.
  • Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Protection and Communications Systems.
  • NERC Reliability Standards Compliance.
  • Automated Logic control systems programming with an understanding of P&ID loop control
  • CISCO and Palo Alto network administration.
  • SQL databases.
  • Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • VMWare products and their environments.
  • Knowledge of common PLC network protocols, IGS Gateway using OPC and Modbus over TCP/IP
  • Active DOE “Q” Clearance

EDUCATION:
Position requires a Master’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 10 years of nuclear related experience including a minimum of 5 years minimum DOE experience in Electrical Engineering; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred.
