Work Location:  On-Site full time
Rate: is open and non-exempt
Hours: 40-60 hrs per week (anticipate 55 hrs per week)
Per diem: Available for those who qualify
Mob / Demob: Available for those who qualify
Trip home: 1 per month

The Structural Engineer (Subject Matter Expert with a focus on Structures and Supports) working for the plutonium facility will have the opportunity to design crane girders and crane support structures, canopies, equipment support stands, piping/conduit supports, wall/floor/ceiling penetrations, and concrete slabs. Structural Engineers will work alongside junior engineers (e.g., fire protection, structural, mechanical, and electrical) and other senior engineers in team settings to complete collaborative full-system design solutions through mentoring, calculations, and leadership.

EDUCATION:
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree (Masters Desired) in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 10 years of nuclear related experience including a minimum of 5 years minimum DOE experience in Electrical Engineering; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Thorough knowledge of nuclear facility engineering in one or more of the following, nuclear criticality safety analysis, safety basis, system engineer, project engineer, or design engineer.
  • Thorough knowledge of nuclear facility engineering work planning and control methods.
  • Expert knowledge of new and existing non-reactor facility structural engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of computer-aided engineering tools to solve operations-based engineering problems.
  • Structural analysis experience in any of the following: SAP 2000, GT STRUDL, RISA, STAAD, or equal.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering work, planning, construction, and control methods.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies. Extensive knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards and guides.
  • Advanced knowledge of industry, regulatory, or national, and Department of Energy codes and standards including IBC, AISC 360, ACI 318, ASCE 7, and DOE-STD 1020.
  • Advanced knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.
  • Advance knowledge of project and process engineering practices

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to structural design implementation.
  • Experience working to and thorough knowledge of LANL institutional engineering policy.
  • Experience using FEA software to efficiently inform design decisions.
  • A self-motivated individual that can work independently to communicate with technical and non-technical staff, customers, and management regarding development of engineering solutions to diverse problem sets.
  • Active PE License
  • Active DOE “Q” Clearance
