Work Location:  On-Site full time
Rate: is open and non-exempt
Hours: 40-60 hrs per week (anticipate 55 hrs per week)
Per Diem: Available for those who qualify

Subject Matter Expert 2 will have radiological protection field experience mentoring personnel in support the Project’s mission. The SME 2 is intended to seek out, share, and support opportunities for process improvements, performance improvements, and measurable reduction of occurrence of negative events associated with radiological control. The SME 2 is required to share observations with the project management teams specific to operational and radiological control concerns, recognition of positive behaviors, and the addressing of negative behaviors. The SME 2 will be required to provide guidance, recommendations, and assist in continuous improvement pertaining to radiological protection work practices and procedures. The SME 2 responsible for supporting the Project by performing assessments, developing, and maintaining healthy working relationships, as well as supporting and disseminating the principles of proper radiological controls and work practices. The SME 2 will also assist in the development of strategies for involving the workforce in the planning of radiological work and providing timely feedback.

SME 2 will provide field mentoring and coaching related observation of radiological work activities. The SME 2 will become familiar with specific LANL/Project specific standards and requirements and field execution documentation required for the successful completion of a specific work activity.  This will include (but not limited to):

  • Performing field activities such as observations of work, oversight of work, and attendance at any associated meeting as assigned for critical Project work activities.
  • Meeting routinely with Project Senior leadership, along with lower tier leaders, to develop and maintain project/workforce familiarity.
  • Assisting in the resolution of radiological issues when identified during the performance of work.
  • Championing assigned corrective actions and process improvement initiatives to identify innovative and compliant resolutions.
  • Providing radiological technical support to ALDPI field execution team leaders.

Typical education/experience requirements:
BA/BS in related field, plus 10 years of direct related experience or combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in radiological control.
Minimum 5 years of experience with alpha contamination and D&D work activities
10 years of experience at a DOE Category II nuclear facility or equivalent NRC facility.
