Civil Superintendent – Aylett, VA
Duration:  7 months +
Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate’s requested rate
Hours: 40-50 / wk
Per diem: $120.00
Mob / Demob: $500 each ($1,000 total)

Position Details /Scope of Work: 
This position must help provide leadership for the safe oversight of daily operations on civil jobs to help ensure optimum productivity and construction compliance. The position will supervise the execution of jobs within project specifications with regards to compliance, scheduling, and budgetary requirements. Must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed.

Position Details:

  • Perform the day to day activities assigned by the customer and or Civil Group Manager and ensure that all required equipment inspections and emergency situations are resolved in a timely and efficient manner
  • Performs site inspections for unsafe conditions, practices with recommendations for corrective actions when needed.
  • Assures that all codes are satisfied, in conjunction with all agencies
  • Cooperates with the Safety and Compliance Department
  • Supervises and directs work in the Civil, and Engineering, crafts, and activities as they relate to the work
  • Monitors the activities of subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules
  • Continually inspects work site, surveying for potential hazards or safety concerns
  • Responsible for crew safety and establishes safe work environment that complies with the Company safety program
  • Prepares reports, forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditure forecasts
  • Plans the manpower and equipment required to execute the job

  • Performs site inspections for unsafe conditions, practices with recommendations for corrective actions when needed.

  • Communicating personnel, equipment, and supply needs to the Managers within the Civil Group
  • Oversight of job operations/company personnel as requested by the Civil Group Manager
  • Preparing T&M tickets, daily production reports, receipts, and other paperwork as required by the job
  • Ensuring that pre-shift equipment inspections are performed and documented
  • Answering calls and questions related to the job, other co-vendors and from other Beitzel employees
  • Responding in a timely manner to customer service needs
  • Perform the day to day activities assigned by the customer and or Group Manager and ensure that all required equipment inspections and emergency situations are resolved in a timely and efficient manner
  • Demonstrate mastery in Excavator, Dozer, and Loader
  • Demonstrate mastery in fine grading with all large equipment
  • Operate roller and/or haul truck whenever requested
  • Moving trucks, unloading trucks, operating heavy machinery (excavator, dozer, etc.), cleaning equipment, assuming laborer duties, and other duties as assigned by the customer
  • Gain increased civil experience by providing support to Civil Operations
  • Assist in coordinating maintenance, repairs, and additional work with the customer, and Division Management
  • Providing detailed paperwork, and documentation to ensure accurate record keeping, billing and inventory
  • Maintaining company tools, equipment and vehicles in a professional and workman-like manner
  • Following proper safety and incident reporting procedures
  • In addition, may perform all duties of General Laborer, Skilled Laborer, Carpenter, and possibly Electrician
  • Providing troubleshooting to follow a problem to the source and solve the issue
  • Assisting, Coaching, Training, and guiding other field personnel as needed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years of Civil supervisory experience or equivalent/relevant education and experience preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of civil operations
  • Knowledge of the use of tools and equipment
  • Prior experience working off lifts or staging
  • Reads, plans and reviews drawings
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Skill in dealing with the public in a manner which will facilitate any constructive problem solving possible
  • Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations
  • Ability to meet deadlines

Working Conditions and physical requirements

  • Sit, talk, hear, read, and write
  • Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Perform duties on-site and underground at industrial locations
  • Required to wear safety equipment: as per MSHA and Safeland requirements including but not limited flame resistant clothing, steel toed and/or metatarsal shoes, hard hat, lanyard, protective eye wear, etc.
