Mechanical Engineer (Expert Level)

Expert Level Mechanical Engineer – Hybrid
Work Location:  Part onsite Hanford Site (southeastern Washington state) / Remote
Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate’s requested rate
Duration: 6 – 11 months
Hours: Part-time as needed 20-40 hrs per week

The required qualifications are as follows:
1. Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering
2. Minimum of 12 years’ relevant experience

Position Details: 
The following tasks are part of the engineering and technical support effort for project engineering planning activities associated with cold and dark planning and the eventual demolition of the 324 Facility.

1. 324 Hazardous Waste Removal Planning technical support for the 324 Radiochemical Engineering Complex (REC):

a. Identify and review historical documentation – Hazardous waste removal plan
b. Perform current status verification
c. Develop final hazardous waste removal plan

2. Cold and Dark Planning
a. Identify and review historical documentation – Cold and dark plan
b. Perform current status verification
c. Develop 324 cold and dark plan

3. Step-Out Criteria Planning
a. Identify and review historical documentation – Step-out criteria plan
b. Perform current status verifications – Step-out criteria plan
d. Determine required changes to safety basis and other documents

4. Grout and Stabilization Planning
a. Identify and review historical documentation
b. Perform current status verifications
c. Develop final grout and stabilization plan

5. Facility Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) removal planning
a. Identify and review historical documentation
b. Perform current status verifications
c. Develop final hazardous material removal plan

6. Demolition Planning
a. Identify and review historical documentation
b. Perform current status verifications
c. Develop 324 demolition plan

7. Containment Structure Planning
a. Identify and review historical documentation
b. Perform current status verifications
c. Develop final containment

8. Soil Remediation Planning
a. Identify and review historical documentation
b. Perform current status verifications
c. Develop final soil remediation plan

9. Assist with Engineering support staffing plan.

10. In addition to the tasks listed above, the resource will be expected to provide project status meetings and budgetary planning and Develop step-out criteria plan
