Senior Human Factors Engineer/Designer – SMR Project – REMOTE
Work Location: Remote (w/occasional trips to the site)

Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate’s requested rate (will be non-exempt)
Hours: 40 hrs / wk
Duration: Long Term / ASAP – December 2024 (staff aug for 6 months then offer to go direct)
Position Details: This position is for a Senior professional who is self-motivated and willing to continue to further develop his/her career with experience in nuclear field. A Senior Human Factors Engineer/Designer (HFE) is required to provide specialized human factors and cognitive science analysis, design and evaluation services to projects involving new designs for BWRX 300 Nuclear Power Plants. Duties will be carried out independently and can also include supervision and leading of a team of other engineers. Duties will include the following:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform engineering work following Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements Provide support to plant facility system design engineers to integrate human factors into design modifications or new projects
- Identify the need, and preparation of the human factors engineering program plans, summary report, V&V plan, and design guides and procedures
- Perform and document human factors analyses e.g., function and task analyses
- Development of computerized displays and conventional panel human-system interfaces e.g., meters and control devices
- Lead human factors verification and validation activities
- Participate in discussions with facility design engineers
- Perform control centre design activities such as prepare Design Guides, prepare specifications for Human System Interface (HSI), preparation of detailed drawings (e.g., nameplate details) for control panels, work with vendors to ensure compliance with procedures and standard design, etc.…
- Perform specialized technical reviews (in the area of Human Factors) for project documentation to ensure Human factors scope is adequately addressed.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to junior and assistant engineers/ designers,
- Supervising and co-ordinates and reviewing the work of junior and assistant engineers/ designers; prepares estimates and monitors schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates
- Co-ordinate HF work scope for major projects including definition of work scope, communicating client requirements, monitoring, and reporting progress.
- Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting, to meet project goals
- Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other areas of the company
Qualifications

- Degree from an accredited university of recognized standing in engineering, psychology, or computer science, specializing in human factors (e.g., course work in human factors methods, perception/cognition, statistical analysis of behavioral data, workspace/equipment layout, human-computer interaction) or equivalent.
- 10-15 years’ experience in the application of human factors to engineering design and development processes in process control or related industries, experience in the nuclear industry is preferred; and a master’s degree in human Factors would be desirable.
- Demonstrate excellent technical skills and problem-solving capabilities and be able to seek practical solutions to human factors problems in design and operation (e.g., procedures).
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
